Louis Van Amstel
Nationality:  Dutch
Louis began his dance training with ballet, tap and jazz training at a Theater school.  He attended the University of the Arts in Amsterdam to study dance technique and theory.   A Latin American dancer based out of Utah, Louis is a former United States Professional Latin American champion (2000), 7 Time Dutch National Amateur Champion, European Amateur Latin Champion (1995), World Amateur Latin Champion (1994 and 1995), Grand Slam Latin Champion (1995),  World Professional Showdance Champion (1996), and Professional World Latin Finalist (1996).  Louis's former partners include  Julie Fryer (three world titles and European title together), Joanna Leunis and Karina Smyrnoff.  

Louis is a student of dance guru Dr. Ruud Vermeij and studies Laban choreology, a form of movement notation.  

In America, Louis founded VanDance, LLC, through which he directed, choreographed in an On-Broadway show at City Center called "Latin Fusion."  Latin fusion's cast included Jose Decamps and Viktoriya Drubetskaya, and Valentin Chmerkovskiy and Diana Olonetskaya.

According to Celebrity Spider, Louis is relocating to Los Angeles from Utah to assist Dancing With the Stars Celebrity Lisa Rinna in opening a dance studio.  

During season 1, Louis danced with Trista Sutter (The Bachelorette).  He and Trista were the first to be voted off the show.  In season 2, Louis was paired with second runner up Lisa Rinna.

Edyta Sliwinska
Nationality:  Polish
A Latin American dancer based out of San Francisco, California, Edyta is an Emerald Ball Latin Amateur Champion, and International and Holiday Ball Champion.  She has been a finalist in the US Latin championships for four years running.  Edyta recently turned professional with her partner, Dancing With the Stars' Alec Mazo.  Edyta began dancing at age 10.  Her dance partner, Alec, is her boyfriend of four years.

Edyta teaches at Genesis DanceSport Center in San Francisco, CA.  

During season 1, Edyta danced with boxing superstar Evander Holyfield.  They were the second couple eliminated from the competition.  During season 2, Edyta danced with celebrity George Hamilton.

Jonathan Roberts
Nationality:  American 
A Latin American dancer based out of San Jose, California, Jonathan holds the titles of 2004 USA Rising Star Latin Champion, 2003 Blackpool Rising Star Latin, 1997 USA Rising Star American Ballroom Champion, 2 times undefeated USA pro-am 10 dance champions (with Pam Butler), and 2 time USA pro-am American Ballroom champions (with Pam Butler).   Jonathan competes in Professional Latin American Dance with his partner and wife, Dancing with the Stars' Anna Trebunskaya.  Anna and Jonathan have been dancing together for four years.  They currently rank 6th in the US and 24th in the world

During season 1, Jonathan partnered supermodel Rachel Hunter.  They were the third couple to be eliminated from the competition.  During season 2, Jonathan danced with celebrity Giselle Fernandez.

Ashly Delgrosso
Nationality:  American
A Latin American dancer based out of Utah, Ashly is a Holiday Classic Rising Star Champion, Rising Star World Professional Latin Championship Semi-Finalist, United States Rising Star Professional Latin Finalist, two time US Youth Ten Dance Champion, Amateur Ten Dance Champion, and US Youth Standard Champion.  In 2002, Ashly placed seventh at in the Rising Star Latin Category at Blackpool.  She teaches at Center Stage in Orum, Utah and performs around the world with Odyssey Dance Theatre.  

Ashly grew up in Utah as one of eight children.  Ashly's mother owns a local dance studio, Center Stage Performing Arts Studio.  Coincidentally, Center Stage student Jaymz Tuaileva appeared on Season 2 of Fox's So You Think You Can Dance.  Ashly began ballroom dancing at age 12.  

Ashly recently retired from the Professional Latin circuit.  Before her retirement, her partner was Rick Robinson.  As an amateur, she danced with Jonathan Gulledge.  

During season 1, Ashly partnered New Kid on the Block Joey McIntyre.  During season 2, she partnered hip hop mogul Master P (P. Miller).  Master P joined the lineup late after his rap-star son, Romeo, was injured while playing basketball and had to drop out of the training for "Dancing With the Stars."

Center Stage Staff Bio


Max Chmerkovskiy
Nationality:  Russian
A Latin American dancer based out of New Jersey, Max is the 2005 Yankee Classic Professional Latin Champion, 2004 Manhattan Dancesport Professional Latin Champion, and 2003 Ohio Star Ball Latin Champion. He is ranked second in the nation in Latin American Dancing.  Max opened Rising Stars Dance Academy, a studio that many nationally and internationally known competitors call home.  He  is also on the board of directors of Team USA, a non-profit organization dedicated to providing opportunities to American Youth in mind, body, and spirit.

Maksim recently found a new partner, Ekaterina Lapaeva.  They are training to compete in September's US Nationals in Florida.  Maksim's brother, Valentin, is a very successful amateur dancer.  

At age 13, Maksim broke his leg in a skiing accident and had a metal rod surgically implanted into his leg.  Doctors said he would most likely walk with a limp.  

Max joined Dancing With The Stars for season 2, during which he partnered actress and new mother Tia Carrere.

Andrea Hale - 
Nationality:  American

A Ten Dance competitor based out of Salt Lake City, Utah, Andrea is a North American Champion (2001), 2 Time US National Champion (2001 and 2002), 4 time US Representative to the World Dancesport Championships, and is one-half of the highest ranked American
couple in International Championships, United Kingdom Championships, and British Open Championships 2001-2004.  

Andrea is an instructor at Center Stage Performing Arts Performing Arts Studio, a studio owned by Ashly Delgrosso's Mother where Ashly also teaches.  

During season 2, Andrea partnered celebrity Kenny Mayne.  


Nick Kosovich - 
Nationality:  Australian

An American Smooth and Ten Dance dancer based out of California, Nick holds the titles of World American Ballroom Champion (2005), two-time US American Ballroom Champion (2004 and 2005), two-time US Classic Showdance Champion (2003 and 2005), two-time US World Classic Showdance Runner Up (2004 and 2005),  and three-time Arthur Murray National American Ballroom Champion (2003, 2004 and 2005).  Before his recent retirement, Nick competed with his wife Lena Bacheva.  Nick and Lena own a ballroom costume company, formally based out of New York but now based out of Los Angeles, called Lenique.  

Tony Dovolani was the best man at Nick and Lena's wedding.  

Nick joined Dancing With the Stars for Season 2, during which he danced with actress Tatum O'Neal.  They rehearsed in New York at Arthur Murray on 57th Street and at Dance New York on 54th Street.

Nick was supposed to join Dancing with the Stars for season 1, but his celebrity partner backed out.  Instead, he served as a sort of consultant for the show, in addition to making costumes for the men and some of the women (through Lenique).  

Nick was also originally slated to be a judge on the show - he even shot the pilot episode in California.  However, the show's producers decided to keep the original judging lineup from London, England.

Anna Trebunskaya
Nationality:  Russian

A Latin American dancer based out of San Jose, California, Anna is the 2004 USA Rising Star Latin Champion, a 2003 Blackpool Rising Star Latin Finalist, and the 1998 USA Amateur Youth Standard Ballroom champion.  

Anna moved to the United States at the age of 17.  Both her parents were professional ballroom dancers and her mother still makes her costumes.  Her parents owned a dance studio in Russia.  Anna currently competes in the Latin American circuit with her husband, Dancing With the Stars' Jonathan Roberts.  

During season 2, Anna partnered football superstar Jerry Rice.

Driton "Tony" Dovolani
Nationality:  Albanian

An American Rhythm dancer based out of New York, Tony Dovolani is the 2005 World Rhythm Champion and US Open Champion.  Tony moved to America at age 14, in 1989, as a political refugee and began dancing at a Fred Astaire studio.  Tony also had a role in the film "Shall We Dance," playing a latin dancer named Slick Willie,  and coached Jennifer Lopez for her role in the movie.  He currently competes on the professional rhythm circuit with his partner Elena Grinenko.  He and Elena won the Rhythm division of America's Ballroom Challenge.  

Tony recently purchased a home in Stratford, CT where he resides with his wife and 6-month-old daughter.  

During season 2, Tony partnered first runner up Stacy Keibler.  Toony and Stacy were the first couple to win a top score of 30 for their Samba on Season 2, followed by another top score for their cha cha.

Cheryl Burke
Nationality:  American

A Latin American dancer based out of New York City, Cheryl is the 2005 World Cup Professional Rising Star Latin Champion, UK Champion, and 4th in the U.S. in the "Under 21s."  She is also the 2005 Ohio Star Ball Rising Star Champion and 2005 San Francisco Open Latin Champion.  

Cheryl began taking ballet at four years old in San Francisco, CA.  She began ballroom dancing at 11 years old.  She is a graduate of Menlo-Atherton High School.

Cheryl is of Filipino, Irish and Russian decent.  

Cheryl is taking time to give back to the community -  in March 2006, she helped the International School of the Peninsula (ISTP) in Palo Alto, CA, raise $250,000 for its educational programs.

Cheryl joined Dancing With the Stars for season 2, during which she partnered winner Drew Lachey.  

Other than Dancing With the Stars, Cheryl has made television appearances The Suite Life of Zack & Cody (Disney Channel), Access Hollywood, Entertainment Tonight, The View, The Tony Danza Show, Jimmy Kimmel Live, and the Insider. 

Most recently, Cheryl received two Emmy Nominations for Outstanding Choreography for "Save a Horse, Ride a Cowboy" and Outstanding Art Direction for a Variety, Music Program, or Special for the Paso Doble Routine to "Thriller"

Alec Mazo
Nationality:  Russian
Alec is the CFO of the youth-oriented Genesis DanceSport Center in San Francisco, CA.  He appeared in the feature film Dance With Me, starring Vanessa Williams.  Alec is a former Emerald Ball Amateur Latin Champion and currently competes Professionally with his partner and longtime girlfriend Edyta Sliwinska.  

Alec's mother owned a dance studio, so dance was an early part of Alec's life.  He began dancing at the age of five.  Alec holds a BA in Cognitive Science from University of California at Berkeley.  

During season 1, Alec partnered winner Kelly Monaco.

Judges
Len Goodman - Len is the head judge on Strictly Come Dancing (UK) in addition to judging on Dancing with the Stars.  An exhibition dancing specialist, Len has been the British Exhibition dance champion three or four times (he can't remember!) and runner up in the Exhibition World Championships.  He is a recipient of the Carl Allen award, the British Rising Star award and the Life Achievement award.  He is an experienced judge, and is a regular at the world championships and the British championships.
 
Carrie Ann Inaba - Carrie comes to Dancing with the Stars from the world of choreography.  Her feature film, television, music video and tour credits include Showgirls, Miss America 2003, American Idol, Madonna's The Girlie Show tour, Ricky Martin's Shake Your Bon Bon video, and "Fook Yu" in Austin Powers 3: Gold Member.  
 
Bruno Tonioli - Bruno is a judge on Strictly Come Dancing (UK) in addition to judging on Dancing with the Stars.  Bruno began as a dancer (see him in Elton John's I'm Still Standing video) but quickly moved into the world of choreography.  e has worked with many famous personalities, including Minnie Driver, Kate Winslet, Elton John, Michael Jackson, Freddie Mercury, Tina Turner and Paul McCartney.
