Paso Doble

Paso Doble is Spanish for "Two Step."   Paso Doble originated as a Spanish folk dance associated with the Bull Fight.  The man represents the Torero (the bullfighter) and the woman represents his cape (although she may also represent the bull).  Paso Doble became popular in the Paris in the1930s. Hence, many Paso Doble steps have french names - sur place, ecart, huit, and so on.  In competition, the dance is usually almost danced to "Espana Cani," a Spanish Gypsy tune with three very distinctive crescendos.

Competitively, the Paso Doble is only danced in the International Latin American Style of Ballroom Dancing.
